  Physics Tip

Viscosity
The property of a liquid that makes it resist flow or any change in the arrangement of its molecules. The higher the viscosity, the "thicker" a liquid seems.

  Physics Quote

It is impossible to trap modern physics into predicting anything with perfect determinism because it deals with probabilities from the outset.
    Sir Arthur Eddington (1882 - 1944)

Average Human Lifespan

Article By: Bruce J. Klein, Director, Immortality Institute

2,000 years ago the average life expectancy for humans was 19 years old.  I mean, can you image having to kick the bucket before you’re even old enough to drink?

2,000 years later, with a little hand washing and a booster shot, you’ve got a pretty good chance of living to the ripe old age of 63.  This average is for the whole world population.  If you’re lucky enough to live in a developed country, which I’d guess you probably are since you’re reading this, your lifespan jumps considerably.

Take Japan for instance, which has the longest average expectancy at 79.9, according to government figures. If you live in the US, however, expect to live to an average of 77.3.

Separate the figures by gender, and men live to 72, while women live to 79, a whopping difference of seven years according to the 2001 CIA World Factbook.

Can we really expect to live this long or longer?  The key question here is not what is the average human lifespan, but what is the maximum human lifespan.

I feel that the increasing use of factory foods adjusted for taste with little regard for nutrition will continue to be a damper a longer avwerage age for US residents.

To simply put, this article is pointless, as the answer to the question "Is there a limit to human lifespans" is simply--- Yes. Confusing lifespan and life-expectancy and unforgivable. Sure life Expectancy is increasing all the time due to tech... however there have been rare occurance of people passing 120, not now and a long time ago... I mean even with poor tech and medicine some greek philosophers lived until they are 90+.... there you go

I found it usefull because I was reading a message board where people wondered about dentistry 2000 years ago. I then wondered what the average life span was back then and found your article. Considering the average life span was around 19, I concluded, it would seem that people were far out lived by their teeth.

I am very young, and when i enter my golden years, the things we can do with seince will be amazing. The lifespans now adays are hampered by cancer, weapons etc. Imagne when i turn 50, we have master nano-tech, mapped and explained every human gene and efficeiantly remodled my genes to reverse that nasty aging thing. If i got high collestral let them little robots go to work clearing my arteires. From my veiw i may be part of the generation that never dies.
