Here's a place to post your favorite movies, good new movies, favorite stars, and anything else regarding the cinema. The only thing I ask is that you don't post too many spoilers, because that ruins the movie for some people.

Here's an older topic, if you want to read some of our favorite movies:

If you take the religious crap out of Braveheart, what you're left with is one extremely good movie.

There's religious crap in Braveheart? I must have missed it in the middle of my enjoying an "extremely good movie". Then again, sometimes I just like to enjoy a movie, and ignore the subtext and subplots.

This is just a quick question for those who have seen Gattaca (Andrew Niccol) and read George Orwell's, 1984- are there obvious parallels that can be drawn between the movie and the text regarding "power play": (the state using their power to manipulate, as to advantage themselves).
I mean, there are similar themes, like lack of individuality, and only the elite classes are advantaged, but what i'm after is a deep connection with the text on ways that power is used and more importantly, abused.

Well continuing the Signs topic:

Signs was really good. But one thing that I have to say is that even though they did a pretty good job on the aliens I think they could have done better and there was one scene in the movie that seemed bleary to me and other people noticed it too. But anyways it was really good. Did anyone notice the comedy in it? I haven't seen many movies that are a combination of comedy and horror.

There are too many hot chicks in movies. They distort my perception of reality.

Zero, as to why you may not have noticed the religious crap:

I think that it might be that many religious things so used to it that it doesn't stand out in our minds. Such things are using the phrase "god-given", praying before a big event, etc.

Yes Spider-man is an awesome flick. McGuire did a great job. And I cant wait for Daredevil. That will be another of my favorite characters on the big screen.

I have heard it will be a whole new cast of characters for X2 (X-men 2) though. They will have Iceman, Shadowcat, and some of the other newer X-men in there. Which I hope they do not. They have a good cast now and should stick with it.

Well, the whole original X-Men cast signed up for the sequel, so I think that the new characters are going to be featured in cameo roles, not replacing the 'main' characters.

I saw the newest Jackie Chan movie, Accidental Spy. It's good, but not as good as I was hoping for. It's no Drunken Master or Rumble in the Bronx.

I saw Signs the other night. Very good movie! It’s an intuitive blend of comedy and suspense, a great story. It is a pretty scary movie, just ask the screaming people in the movie theater. The scares are not localized around gory scenes and eye popping aliens but psychological aspects of uncertainty and fear. I definitely recommend this movie, its one of the better movies I have seen this summer.

Also Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is now out on VHS and DVD. And Memento special edition has arrived, 2 disks and a feature that allows you to play the movie in reverse, well its already backwards, but now you can watch it chronoligicly intact. Those of you who have seen it know what I mean.

Ya wasn't it? Like I said in one of my other posts I haven't really seen a combination of comedy and horror before signs. I mean the audience would go from laughing to screaming. good stuff.
