Perhaps there is already hardware out there that will do what I've been pondering. Regardless, I was wondering if anyone out here could tell me a lil info on a tachometer. I understand that the readings come from the coil, but I was hoping for a little bit more info on how to actually measure the rpm, essentially, I'd like to build my own digital tach. I'm familar with electronics, I just need a point in the right direction of the details of a system. Would it be a great difference between most vehicles, or essentially the same? Actually there are other methods too. Anyway, it might be a start to think about Frequency to Voltage Converters. Take electric pulses, convert these pulse rates to varying voltage levels, and drive a voltmeter with the face renumbered to show RPM.
