Okay, this question is rather technical... not so scientific, but I think that it has a better chance of being addressed in this forum.

What is the average vacuum pressure in the central chamber of a typical sub 4 Kelvin cryostat? Also, does anyone here know of a good place to buy vacuum bolts. By vacuum bolts I mean bolts that are hollow so as to prevent out-gassing.

If you're talking about the insulating area between the He and N areas. It needs to be High vacuum 10^-6 ~ 10^-7 torr. I would look at the Physics Today Buyers guide for the bolts, I haven't found the need to them myself.

Thanks, but as it turns out, I didn't to get the vacuum bolts after all. At such low temperatures, outgassing doesn't occur because gas particles tend to "stick" to the walls.
