I have been looking for a forum where topics are discussed in an intelligent way. A place where I can debate with people at my own intellectual level. Most forums that I have seen are populated by morons whose IQ wouldn't make it into double figures if you doubled it. I thought I had found the kind of place I was looking for when I saw theses forums. But then I saw this posted by a mod:"I have seen debates get ugly and as stated in the guidelines http://www.physicsforums.com/guidelines.html it specifically states that personal attacks are not allowed, insults and negative attitudes are no longer allowed." Should I keep looking? Laser Eyes

It depends of course, on which forums you are talking about.Religion, Philosophy, Theory Development, Mystics and Pseudoscience and Politics get a little... uncivilised now and then, but the others are generally fine. ------------- "....this will be one battle we will regret. that what make that forums the best for me... its not that much bad "uncivilised" but some times some get angry and write bad words and don't mean it ... or but it for explaining a point... quote: personal attacks are not allowed, insults and negative attitudes are no longer allowed."
that make the forums better .!!! the dead man: "every day you discover how dump you were the day before..." forums HERE

Yes, I've certainly seen it get ugly once, but I assure you, the people here are remarkable. The high intellects can combat one another once in a while. You needn't worry about the IQs of PFs members because many have IQs that are profound. I've been on several forums, and none cancompete against this one. Its the best of the best of the best......10 thumbs up!www.dbzsc.com/vegeta34.jpg

Inteligent dizcussions iz hour goal, Laser Eyes. What's your particular concern with that mod's (or "mentor" as we say here at PF) comment? -------------------------- In the fabric of space and in the nature of matter, as in a great work of art, there is, written small, the artist’s signature. Isn't it obvious? If the mod, oops I mean mentor, felt it necessary to give that kind of warning it doesn't say much about the conduct that caused it.Laser Eyes

Putting rules one of the steps of getting everything civilized. Without rules everyone does what he wants to do, and then you will find a big mess ! But when there are rules, and everyone knows them, and everyone agrees to them, then everyone uses them, then ... you have reduced problems. And in a place like this one, it is really important to stop any problem from the begining, cause people don't know each other (personally), or are not aware of each other's society, and a problem can block the main reason of this site, which is having a useful science discussion. If you see that making rules is a positive thing in an intellectual society, then you are at the right place. I personally recommend this place for whoever is interested in science, no matter what his level is.

Have you visited many public forums on the 'net? I've been a member at several and each has had its share of trouble makers, no matter how intelligent the rest of the discussions are. Some people seem to surf the internet looking for forums to bust up (simply posting repetitive swearing and insults and nothing else). The fact that this forum actually culls out such stuff is a good thing. Unmoderated forums tend to be awful. As long as you don't have a desire to sling insults, you should enjoy the discussions at this forum. Give it a try. -------------------------- In the fabric of space and in the nature of matter, as in a great work of art, there is, written small, the artist’s signature. (from Sagan's "Contact")

Lasereyes, if you have any questions about any scientific or philosophical issue, post them. Most of the people here are very willing to put forth their knowledge on the subject, and a lot of them can post links to sites with more information on whatever subject you bring up. As Phobos said, give it a try, post whatever thread you'd like, and see what the responses are like. Note: The discussions only go bad when a person tries to put forth their views as fact, without proof. And this happens much less on this forum, than on any other that I've been to. ~"Evil" is not a scientific word.~

Hmm... No offense, but the intelligence of a person is determined by his/her attitude not the IQ. There are people here with different types and levels of expertise and ages but the common thing among most of them is their willingness to listen, understand and help others.Greg (who BTW privately runs this great forum), posted those guidelines as a pre-emptive measure, not because it is really neccessary. Some discussions like those in the Religion and Politics forums can get ugly. My personal advice would be to avoid these forums, like I do. There are some things that people won't agree upon no matter how much they try to listen and understand... Live long and prosper.
