i have been observing some of my books which i kept for some time...i cant help but wonder y do they turn yellow? n is there anythin i can do bout it?

To expand on voyeur, paper turns yellow because it is made of cellulose. Acids have an dehyrating action on organic chemicals, and thus removes the water from cellulose. This leaves just carbon, which is black and so turns the paper yellow.

Can we expand this into paint too? You can tell an old Recreational Vehicle from a new one by the discolored yellowish paint that once was white. I'm not sure that I have ever noticed this with automobiles that were painted white. Cheap paint perhaps but why?

but carbon is black and the paper becomes yellow?so if we add alkali to it it wont turn yellow? but then some ppt may fform n ruin the paper anyway...
