Here's a question. With all the various arguments floating around on this forum about creation or evolution has anyone ever changed their mind because of some particular argument that was posted here? Is there anyone who was a committed evolutionist but became a believer in God and creation because of the overwhelming truth of some argument? Or is there any believer who became an evolutionist? And if there are none why do you think that is?

I doubt there have been conversions. The arguments we make here are not new. Obviously, we'd be publishing them in Biology or Theology journals if they were. I would bet that most conversions from one belief to another accompany a change in general belief systems - the origin of species belief just goes along for the ride.

IE - Someone who becomes a born a again christian will begin believing in creationism. Someone who loses faith in their religion will begin believing in evolution.

Really good question Laser Eyes.
When i first started to join the forums i joined religion a lot, i hoped that at some point someone on the forums will (at least) start thinking of what i say, but after i while i noticed that the religion sub-forum is simply a place for scientific religion related topics (don't ask me what that means ), which is really disappointing.
No matter what you say i doubt that someone will really think about it, most people in the religion forum are only arguing with each other (from my point of view).
Anyway, (back to me ), i decided to never enter the religion forum again, i only check what new topics have been added to it (from the active topics page).

I can say from the time I first started posting here, I've changed my beliefs slightly. I can't say it was from anything posted here, but more on my own efforts.

I have seen others, who came in preaching and either stay out of the forum now because preaching is not accepted very well, and others who you can actually watch there beliefs crumble from thread to thread. Then there are the one post wonders who make a particular superstitous claim, get shot down, and never post again.

scientific religion related topics

Most topics get hijacked here in a scientific matter for a very simple reason. Science has done many great amounts to cast a reasonable doubt on any idea of an All powerfull being. Especially since as time goes on, science offers more and better explanations that do not require a god to get to the point we are now. They fit within the bounds of reason and plain old common sense. Often times, while the underlying theory may be complicated, it is quite simple in comparison to the christians creation version of "And he separated the waters from below and above" or some such nonsense.

This day and age, we do not need to blindly believe in a god to explain something we don't yet know. Perhaps we can't know everything, but certainly is not a reason to label it "God" and forget about it. With that attitude, we'd probably be sitting around a camp fire arguing this instead of in the comforts of our homes many miles apart.

I'm downright hard on a believer, I want lie. If you want me to believe that X is a omni-whatever creator of everything, you better have some damn good proof. Not some words out of an old book based on verbal tradition. If you can't hold up to some of the questions I and others pose to your claims, then you really have no business making the claim in the first place.

I've seen a few people come through here, who have completly changed there beliefs. One that sticks out in my head is Futurist. When I originally came here, he seemed to be quite a fundamentalist christian. I learned that at an earlier point, he has floods of posts mocking christianity. At some point, he converted to christ, wether it was a result of these forums or not, I dunno.

As I've said before, numerously, religion is a personal matter. It should be treated as such. We discuss our different views of it here on this forum, and as was mentioned else where, many people's religions are deeply rooted. Picking on ones religions is like picking on ones mother, an easy way to start a fight. Its really quite difficult to get a good debate going between believer/non-believer, as the believer shoots down everything you say with a God says this, or the bible says this type response. Really, seems in a proper debate, only information that is good valid, is that information which is verifiable. Neither the bible nor god is 100% verifiable, and therefore, is not ammunition to carry with you to an arguement.
