I am 13 and am doing a science project where i am building an elctromagnet and testing the strength through three different mediums, Glass, wood and plastic. and i ran into a problem, I dont know how to measure the magnets force. i read on some websites about telsa and gauss. But i dont know how to actually measure it. Is there any simple device or suggestions on this? your help is greatly appreciated.

I would recommend something simple: a metal object attached to a spring scale so that you could measure the force with which the magnet attacted it or, even better, a set of iron weights: the strength of the magnet is the largest weight it will lift. (You may want to standardize the distance between the object and the magnet.)

I think it's a good idea. You have to make sure the weight is not directly attracted by the magnet. My idea: magnet. Below that: glass/wood/plastic slab (same size/thickness). Below that: iron cylinder, centered, smaller than magnet, with hook at bottom. long rope. plastic water bucket.
